It’s time for another whopper post. This time I’ll try to introduce you to the wonderful world of vinyl record collecting.

As this subject is quite a comprehensive one, it looks like I won’t be able to include every important aspect in a single post. That’s why I’ll divide it to seperate parts, which I’ll be posting in the following days in a consecutive (I hope) manner.

On a side note: consider these series of posts as sets of handful tips or a “beginner’s guide”, dedicated for the most part to people who are new to this topic, but I can’t promise that vinyl veterans won’t find anything interesting for themselves.

Yesterday, I went to the cinema with my girlfriend to watch the new Bond movie, “Casino Royale”. I must say that I liked it very much and in my humble opinion it’s the best 007 flick since “Golden Eye”. The agent himself is as coy and full of British sarcasm as always, but he’s more brutal than in the previous movies. Even the other characters call him a ruthless killing machine. But I can’t say that I liked everything in the movie…

Maybe you’ve already seen this video, but all I can say is WHOA! This young dude rocks big time! He’s only twelve, but he slams ‘dem drums like a pro.

Maybe he’ll be the next Bonzo or Cozy Powell ? Only the future can tell, but I expect great things from this young “drummer boy”.

OK, this won’t exactly be a “part 2″ of my previous post, that’s why I call it a supplement. I simply thought about some things related to the subject, which I forgot to write about. So, you probably have heard of vintage wine, vintage salami and so forth. In the High Fidelity world exists also a “vintage” term, most commonly known as vintage HiFi. So, what does it mean ? Well, as the “vintage” word implies, it generally means older HiFi equipment, be it turntables, amplifiers and other audio gear and in some cases even old TV sets and VCR’s also count.

Vintage video ain’t exactly my region of interest (well maybe except LD’s, but as far as I know people don’t put the “vintage” tag on this technology yet), so I’ll mostly stick to the vintage audio part of old HiFi…

I know for a fact that not many people acknowledge this fact, but for me and many others the answer is YES! Sound quality DOES in most cases also depend on the factor of where was the record manufactured. And by using the term “record” I don’t mean only LP’s and vinyl singles. It’s the same with CD’s, cassettes, LD’s (LD = LaserDisc) and probably also SACD’s and (nowadays pretty rare) pre-recorded tape reels. OK it’s time to make a pause on all (well, 2 for now to be exact) posts regarding the blog’s technical side, let’s get back to some of the main topics …

For some time I’ve been using Linux (for those of you who don’t know what Linux is: it’s another kind of operating system. To put it in a nutshell: consider it as a more “open” Windows), the well known Debian distribution to be exact. I’ve configured all the multimedia applications (music/video players, etc.), but I still lacked something. Hi fellow blog audience! (albeit yet non-existent, as I’m aware)

I’ve finally managed to get this whole blogging business a’ rollin’.
